Split Cable Glands for Cables with Connectors
Waterproof with up to IP66 / IP68 Seal
By using split cable glands by icotek pre-terminated cables with diameters from 1 to 35 mm can be quickly routed into enclosures, control panels or machines and be sealed with up to UL type 4X*/IP66/IP68 rated ingress protection (certified according to EN 60529/UL50-E). In addition, the cable glands serve as strain reliefs due to the integrated cord grip function. The split cable glands enable quick and easy assembly which is great for retrofits and maintenance.

Info Guide – Everything You Need to Know About Split Cable Glands
The icotek split cable glands enable the transit of connectorized cables or complete cable harnesses. In contrast to conventional cable glands the connector doesn’t have to be cut off the cable in advance and be re-connected afterwards. Thus, the cable manufacturer's warranty remains and you save a lot of assembly time.
But also electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic lines without connectors as well as corrugated conduits and hoses can be easily routed, sealed and strain relieved using split cable glands.

A quick and easy assembly is possible due to the completely split system. The prefabricated cable is placed into the split grommet which is set into one of the gland halves. Due to the fine gradation of the cable diameters, there is an excellent adaptation of the grommet to the inserted cable or hose. Depending on the size of the cable gland, one, two or four separate grommets can be installed. By using multi-hole grommets up to 16 lines can be routed with one cable gland.
Easy Assembly of the Cable Glands
Easy Assembly of the Cable Glands
The two gland halves can be easily snapped together without the need of tools (screw assembly in case of the KVT-ER model). The assembled cables are securely sealed and held inside the cable gland grommets. To mount the cable glands either snap it into the wall or screw it with a hexagonal locknut. Large Variety of Cable Glands
The different model ranges of the icotek split cable glands offer various application possibilities:
- The split cable gland KVT-ER provides high certified ingress protection ratings (IP65 / IP66 / IP67 / IP68 / UL Type 12/4X*) due to an injected gasket and it provides strain relief acc. to EN 62444. The KVT-ER is available for metric cut-outs M25-M63.
- The split IP54 cable gland KVT is an icotek classic. It can be tool-less assembled with KT grommets and be mounted on metric cut-outs M20-M63.
- The angled split IP54 cable gland KVT-W90 enables prefabricated and standard cable transit at a 90° angle to the enclosure or machine wall. It is as well particularly suitable for the introduction of corrugated conduits. Available for M32 and M50 cut-outs.
- The very compact split cable gland QVT (IP54) is tool-less assembled with QT grommets and can be mounted on metric cut-outs M16-M50. The QVT series is characterized by its low mounting height and its extremely small structure.
- With the DB distribution box (IP54), centrally routed cables can be distributed 360° in all desired directions. Available for cut-outs M32 - M75.
- If the thread lengths are not sufficient, for example when mounting on sandwich panels or thick concrete walls, icotek offers a practical solution: the icotek thread extension (M25 / M32 / M50 / M63)
- The split IP54 cable glands QVT-CLICK (M16 - M40) and KVT-SNAP (M32, M40 and M63) are ideal for mounting without any tools by snapping them directly into the cut-out. Therefore, they are suited perfectly when maintenance and retrofitting. A fixation with a locknut is not necessary, but possible with the KVT-SNAP.
- For applications with lower requirements on ingress protection icotek offers a split cable gland with brush seal, specifically designed to feed cables easily into server racks, control panels and through raised floors and walls.
- Optional accessories: For split cable glands icotek offers split locknuts as well as special locknuts which are suitable for routing D-Sub, DVI, Patch, USB, VGA or PROFIBUS connectors.

Frequently asked questions about cable glands
What is a cable gland?
A cable gland is a bushing for inserting or passing through a cable. It is usually made of plastic, fixes the cable and can take on additional functions such as sealing or strain relief. Cable glands are manufactured according to EN 50262 and consist of several parts that are screwed together via a thread.
What is the purpose of a cable gland?
The cable gland fulfills various functions. Your main tasks are:
- Damage-free implementation
- Mechanical fixation of the cable
- Strain relief
- Bend protection
- Dirt and water sealing according to IP classes
How does a cable gland work?
The screw connection consists of several parts. In the middle there is a seal made of rubber or elastomer, for example. It is inserted into a one-piece or multi-piece housing. When the housing is screwed on, the seal is pressed against the cable and, depending on the model, provides the necessary strength, sealing and strain relief.
What size does a cable gland have to have?
The size of the cable gland depends on the cable that is to be passed through. The size of the cut-out in the wall or housing depends on the size of the cable gland. The cable diameter therefore determines the size of the gland and the hole.
What does PG cable gland mean?
The PG cable glands have a steel pipe thread. This has different dimensions than the metric threads used today and the two types of thread are not compatible with each other. The PG cable glands have largely been replaced by the new glands according to EN 60423 and are generally no longer installed.
Which cable gland do I use for which cable?
The size of the cable gland depends on the outer diameter of the cable. The size of the cable can be found either from the data sheet or by measuring.
When exposed to dirt or moisture, it is also important to use a cable gland with at least the required protection class (IP XX). A cable gland with a higher protection class can be used without hesitation.
Which cable gland do I use for cables pre-assembled with connectors?
There are special split cable glands for pre-assembled cables. These allow you to insert a cable with a plug without removing the plug. The screw connection is simply assembled around the cable. Split screw connections can also be used for cables without plugs, but the opposite case does not work.
Which cable gland for 3 x 1.5?
A NYM-J 3 x 1.5 has an outside diameter of about 9 mm. The following cable glands are suitable for this diameter:
- M16 x 1,5
- M18 x 1,5
- M20 x 1,5
- M24 x 1,5
- M25 x 1,5
Which cable gland do I use for which area of application?
The standards and requirements for cable glands differ depending on the area of application. The building, the installation location and the environmental conditions determine minimum requirements such as which type of protection and explosion safety of the cable gland. In some industries and areas, particularly special requirements and standards apply. This includes:
- Medical technology
- Clean rooms
- Automotive industry
- Potentially explosive areas
- Food technology
